The Club, which operates in the South
Hams area of South Devon, has
the following objectives:
To increase awareness of productions of artistic
interest to our members and thus to promote and encourage attendance of live
performing arts in the South Hams area.
To enrich our member's lives by helping them to become engaged, educated and
challenged by live performing arts on offer in the South Hams and nearby
areas.
To provide transport so as to enable people to attend live performing arts,
many of whom ordinarily could not or would not attend such events.
To act against the social exclusion to live performing arts which, outside of
SHTCC, exists for many members of the local community.
The club serves all social backgrounds of our local community and is open to
all.
To support local amateur performing arts clubs and societies and professional
performing arts venues with continuing attendances at live performances.
The non-profit making Club, which was formed in
1948 and is operated by volunteers, provides the opportunity for members to
attend theatres and concert halls in the nearby cities of Plymouth and Exeter
and the area of Torbay. We travel by coach from the bus station on the quay in
Kingsbridge and collect additional members from villages en route. This saves
the stress of driving to and parking in busy centres and provides a sociable
environment for the trip. All bookings are made through the club's ticket
secretary.
At present our main destinations are:
Plymouth: the Theatre
Royal, the Pavilions, the Guildhall and the Sherwell Centre at the University
Exeter: the Great Hall and the Northcott Theatre at the University and the
Westpoint Arena
Torquay: the Princess Theatre
Paignton: the Palace Theatre
We currently have around 400 members and offer a
warm welcome to newcomers.
